The RM-Primis ECU supports both paddle shifters and universal sequential shifters, allowing integration with a wide range of transmission setups.
The system supports:
Both paddle shifters and sequential shifters can be used independently or together depending on your application.
In terms of wiring and electrical operation, paddle shifters and sequential shifters are treated exactly the same by the ECU.
The system uses:
These switches can be connected using:
| Input Type | Notes |
|---|---|
| Analog Input | Requires a voltage divider ladder circuit |
| Digital Input | Voltage divider not required |
When using an Analog Input, both switches are connected through a resistor ladder network which produces different voltages depending on which switch is pressed.
This allows:
📘 Refer to the wiring diagram below for the recommended resistor ladder circuit.
When using Digital Inputs:
External pull-up resistors may be required depending on the selected input.
⚠️ Not all digital inputs support software-configurable pull-ups.
The RM-Primis supports two paddle shifter operating modes.
Use this option when the vehicle already has:
And you want to add steering wheel paddles.
Select:
BMW (OEM Protocol)
In the CAN-BUS settings menu.
In this mode:
Use this mode when:
In this configuration:
💡 Sequential shifters using two switches operate exactly the same way as paddle shifters in Shifter Emulation mode.
First configure the desired shifter mode in:
CAN-BUS Menu
Then navigate to:
Settings → IO IDLE VVT Boost → IO Overview → MORE → Inputs
Under the Special Functions tab locate:
The ECU will differentiate the switches based on voltage level.
After assigning the inputs:
If the input status shows:
ON
While the paddle is NOT being pressed, the input edge configuration is incorrect.
Adjust the edge polarity so the status only becomes:
ON
When the paddle or shifter is physically pressed.
Sequential shifters are configured exactly the same way as paddle shifters.
The ECU treats:
As identical input devices.
When using:
At the same time:
The paddle shifters must be configured in RM-Tuner as:
BMW (OEM Protocol)
This allows proper coexistence between:
| Action | Result |
|---|---|
| Single DOWN | Reverse (R) |
| Single UP | Drive (D) |
| Double-tap DOWN | Park (P) |
| Double-tap UP | Manual Mode (M) |
| Action | Result |
|---|---|
| UP | Manual Mode (M) |
| DOWN | Reverse (R) |
While in any forward gear:
| Action | Result |
|---|---|
| Hold shifter for 750ms | Neutral (N) |
| Hold again for another 750ms | Park (P) |
This helps prevent accidental shifts into:
While driving.
For safety reasons:
| Action | Result |
|---|---|
| UP | Manual Up Shift (M+) |
| DOWN | Manual Down Shift (M−) |
| Action | Result |
|---|---|
| Double-tap UP | Toggle Drive ↔ Manual |
This allows quick switching between:
Without removing hands from the wheel.
